Are Forehead Lifts Effective in Fighting Migraines?
The forehead and the area just above the eyebrows are among the most overlooked features on just about any face. It’s also an area that’s among the first to show the effects and signs of aging.
But in addition to reducing wrinkle lines, raising sagging brows and improving frown lines, forehead lifts may be effective in reducing – or even eliminating – migraine headaches.
We’ll talk about it in this issue.
What is a forehead lift?
A forehead lift can be performed in different ways.
- In the “traditional manner” – known as the pretrichial eyebrow/forehead – incisions are made at the hair line or near the eye lids to remove the loose skin and tissue. The doctor will then work with the underlying muscle tissue that’s leading to the current undesirable appearance.
- A newer and less invasive approach, called the endoscopic forehead lift, revolves around the use of a thin tube with a camera on the end (an endoscope) that’s inserted through a small incision in the affected area for the doctor to do his/her work.
What does a forehead lift do?
Specifically, the forehead lift will remove the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. The results of a forehead lift are immediately noticeable, and any swelling should disappear within a few days.
Can a forehead lift actually prevent migraine headaches?
The connection between the two goes like this: Some migraines are caused by sensitive nerve endings being squeezed and irritated by muscles. Working with the muscles so that they no longer decompress the nerve endings has shown to decrease the prevalence of migraines in some patients.
In the study, 83% of participants reported at least a 50% reduction in the frequency of migraine headaches.
