Skin Resurfacing with Genesis Laser Treatment
Laser skin resurfacing is a convenient, non-surgical option for people who want to lessen the effects of aging and the environment on their skin. This virtually painless procedure is quick — often called a “lunchtime treatment” — and, with multiple visits, can produce excellent results for a variety of skin concerns.
At Sadrian Plastic Surgery in San Diego, we offer a number of different treatments and procedures, including peels and lasers, to treat an array of skin concerns. One of our most popular and successful options is the Genesis Laser by Cutera.
The Genesis Laser is used for skin concerns that commonly accompany aging and sun damage — redness, rough texture, fine lines and wrinkles. Patients with rosacea can also consider Genesis to help reduce redness. This type of laser has also been scientifically-proven to increase collagen production, which can further diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
The Genesis Laser is non-ablative, meaning it doesn’t cut the skin or remove the top layer of skin cells. Instead, the light pulses actually penetrate the skin’s surface, allowing the energy to be absorbed by your tissues to work on the problems that you want to correct. This type of laser, also known as YAG, is named for the components of the crystal that are used to concentrate the light pulses that comprise treatment — yttrium, aluminum, and garnet.
But enough talk about light pulses and components. The real question you probably have is how does it work. That’s another great thing about Genesis — the method of action is very easy to explain and understand. When you come to Sadrian Plastic Surgery for your Genesis Laser appointment, you will find that this procedure is simple and very painless. You won’t even need a topical anesthetic, the laser never even touches your skin. Instead, it is waved just above the surface, creating a feeling of tiny, warm drops of water being deposited — that’s the light pulses doing their work. As your skin or “dermis” is heated, collagen regrowth is stimulated to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and correct redness, rough texture and even large pores.
Many patients notice the first subtle changes after only the first treatment. Most patients will require a number of treatments to get the best results. Four to six is the average, but your skin may respond to fewer or require more. Your doctor will help determine the right number of visits for you, depending on your individual skin condition and what you are trying to treat.
There is no downtime or recovery with Genesis laser treatments, and side effects are very rare. Some patients reported a slight redness immediately following treatment, but that dissipates within a few hours.
You just come for your appointment, have the treatment, and then go about your day like normal, looking better each time you visit.
