It’s no secret men are increasingly turning to surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery to improve their looks. One particular procedure that’s gaining in popularity among men is the tummy tuck.
In this issue, we’ll talk more about tummy tucks for men.
Are men really getting tummy tucks?
They sure are! In 2015, the number of men getting tummy tucks in the U.S. increased by 8%, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. While the overall number of tummy tucks in 2015 increased by almost 10%, women made up the vast majority.
Is the male tummy tuck procedure different for men?
Not really. The tummy tuck procedure for men is basically identical to how it’s done for women.
What can a man expect during a male tummy tuck?
Not every patient will need the same procedure. For example, a tummy tuck is often done in conjunction with liposuction. But depending upon your situation, you may be able to get by with doing less.
Your procedure, depending on what will be done, should last anywhere from 2-4 hours and will be done on an outpatient basis. Your incision will be in the lower part of your abdomen, usually just below your belt line.
After the procedure, you’ll be brought to the recovery room so that you can rest as the anesthesia subsides. Once you’re feeling better, a friend or family member can take you home. You will have regular post op appointments so that we can care for your healing process and guide you on your journey.
Am I a good candidate for a male tummy tuck?
The tummy tuck can be performed on a wide range of people with different body types. The main requirements are that you:
- Be in decent health overall; and
- Have realistic expectations of what the procedure can and cannot accomplish.
Remember, a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure or a substitute for exercise. If you are looking to have fat removed but do not have excess skin, liposuction is probably a better procedure for you.
