Facial Fat Transfer

What is Facial Fat Transfer?

In the normal process of aging, fat is redistributed to areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, and is taken away from areas such as the face and hands. Because of this redistribution and this loss of fat, you may appear older than you actually are. By replenishing the lost fat, a more youthful look can be achieved. Nothing looks more smooth, natural, and feels as soft as altering your facial appearance with facial fat transfer, or fat grafting. If you have lost facial volume at your temples, feel your face should have more definition at the cheeks, or you want to enhance your facial profile, find out about our groundbreaking facial fat transfer procedure at Sadrian Plastic Surgery.

How much does Facial Fat Transfer cost?

Surgical costs can vary based on anesthesia fees and other costs, such as post-surgical care. At Sadrian Plastic Surgery, a facial fat transfer procedure costs between $7,000 and $10,000. When you schedule your complimentary La Jolla cosmetic surgery consultation, we will discuss pricing so you can be prepared for what your surgical costs will cover. We’re happy to work with CareCredit® and Alphaeon®, and our Patient Coordinator can answer your questions regarding other surgical financing options you are interested in.

How Does Facial Fat Transfer Work?

To perform this modern approach to facial enhancement, the first step is to harvest some of your own natural fat cells from an area with an excess, such as thighs, buttocks, love handles, or other area. Not only will you be able to enhance your facial appearance, but this twofold procedure sculpts an area of your body with excess fat. Once the fat cells are harvested, they are cleansed and purified. They are then carefully and delicately injected into the facial area requiring enhancement, whether the cheeks, temples or used as a natural “filler” to smooth lines, wrinkles and creases.

Fat Grafting vs. Dermal Fillers

The advantage of fat grafting is that the fat comes from your own body, so you cannot develop an allergic reaction unlike other external implant substances that are introduced into the body. Your body naturally accepts the injected fat. Additionally, since the fat is your own, a significant portion of the fat lasts much longer than injectable fillers, therefore reducing the need for constant reinjections. The most common areas of fat graft placement are the lips and the nasal-labial fold lines of the face (laugh lines). Other target areas can also be the hands, cheeks, scar depressions, irregularities, or to recontour the face or body. The procedure can take anywhere from one to three hours. There is usually swelling and mild bruising noted, which will resolve over the first week after the injection of the fat.

Should I Try Facial Fat Grafting?

If you struggle with any of the following conditions, you should explore this natural approach to facial enhancement:

  • You have lost volume at the temples.
  • You have facial areas that have become creased or appear sunken.
  • You want to enhance facial definition by adding volume at cheeks or other facial areas.
  • You want to restore a more youthful look that lasts longer than what dermal fillers can achieve.
