Not all injectable treatments work for everything, which is why it is a good thing that there are so many options out there. At Sadrian Plastic Surgery, we offer only the best options for our patients, and our office of trained medical professionals is there to help guide you to the right injectable for your needs.

Injectables for facial skin come in a variety of categories. There are intramuscular injections such as Botox, and also dermal fillers, such as Juvederm. Many dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid fillers, but not all. Sculptra dermal filler is one that is very different.

Sculptra® is made from a synthetic material known as poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Like the natural lactic acids in our body, PLLA is gradually absorbed by your body’s own cell enzymes, and causes no harm. PLLA is biocompatible, and it has a long history of use in medicine and surgery, including such applications as surgical stitches.

Sculptra was originally FDA-approved back in 2004, when it was used specifically to treat facial fat loss, also known as lipoatrophy, in patients suffering from immunosuppressive illnesses, like HIV. In 2009, it was approved for cosmetic use in non-immunosuppressive patients, and it has shown excellent results.

The main uses for this dermal filler are correcting shallow to deep folds and wrinkles in the face. Specific areas are the deep creases or folds between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds, sometimes known as smile or marionette lines) and also chin wrinkles. It has also been approved to add volume to the upper cheeks and temple area. But Sculptra does more than just “fill” wrinkles and lines because it’s not just a filler — it’s also a collagen stimulator.

Collagen is a natural protein found in our bodies, and it is one of the things that helps to keep our skin looking younger and firmer. Sculptra stimulates the growth of new collagen and works to diminish existing facial wrinkles by actually restoring the structure beneath your skin. And the results are natural looking and long lasting — up to two years following a total of three treatments.

Some people will see results after only one treatment, and others may require more than three — up to six, in some cases. But the average is three injections for two years of results, and that’s a pretty excellent average. Some results will also be noticeable immediately following your first injection, but over time is when the full results come to fruition. A matter of several weeks is the average time period, but you can feel confident that your patience will be rewarded. That’s a big Sculptra advantage.

We would be happy to talk to you more about Sculptra and whether or not it can help you achieve the results you want. And with so many other options available here at Sadrian Plastic Surgery, we can talk to you about all the other alternatives we offer, so that you — with the help of one of our doctors — can determine what is the right treatment or procedure for you.
