Rhinoplasty: The Equal Opportunity Surgery
Some forms of plastic surgery, such as breast enhancement, are limited to females. Other forms of surgery, such as face lifts, attract more female than male clients. However, there is one type of surgery that both men and women utilize frequently: rhinoplasty, or a “nose job.”
The nose sits in the center of the face and when it is out of proportion or misaligned, it draws the eye directly to itself. People are often more self-conscious about the size and shape of their noses than about anything else on their bodies. Dr. Sadrian and his team of professionals at Sadrian Plastic Surgery work with both men and women every day to help them achieve the look they want.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty refers to the surgical reshaping of the nose. Most people seek rhinoplastic surgery because they feel their noses are too big, too small or sit crookedly on the face. In some cases, the nose has been broken in the past; in other cases, the person has always been dissatisfied with his or her appearance.
Rhinoplasty usually involves separating the skin that covers the nose from the underlying cartilage then removing or moving some of the bone and cartilage for a different appearance. This means that those who undergo rhinoplasty usually require complete sedation. The procedure may take one to several hours depending on the severity of the issue and the techniques used.
What Are The Effects of Rhinoplasty?
Patients generally recover quickly from rhinoplasty due to the fact that the surgery affects only a small percentage of the body. However, there may be some initial discomfort, and patients should always follow all of their doctor’s instructions to the letter.
Ultimately, patients are overwhelmingly pleased with the effects of rhinoplastic surgery. This is particularly true if they were highly sensitive about the nose prior to the surgery. If a patient feels his or her nose was too big or misshapen, rhinoplasty can make the patient very happy. Of course, rhinoplasty does not significantly change the looks of the face, but many patients feel they have a much better appearance after the surgery. This is one reason why rhinoplasty is almost as popular with men as with women.
It is also possible that rhinoplasty can correct some structural issues that affect breathing, although this is not the immediate purpose of plastic surgery.
