PRP — Platelet-Rich Plasma
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a naturally-occurring substance that facilitates healing. PRP injections are some of the most natural and effective treatments used to rejuvenate your facial appearance and texture. PRPs essentially catalyze your body’s natural healing response, making it heal from the inside. PRP injections are completely safe and cause negligible side effects, and there’s no risk of allergic reactions because they’re derived from your body. PRP injections are popularly used in sports medicines as well, and they maintain a perfect safety record.
What is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a naturally-occurring substance derived from the body. The cosmetic doctor draws a small amount of your blood, processes it at high speeds, and isolates the platelets and plasma from the remaining blood cells.
The platelets and plasma contain the growth factors, i.e., the components that stimulate collagen formation and cellular regeneration. Once the PRPs are isolated, they’re injected into strategically-targeted locations on your skin, catalyzing your body’s healing response to remove or heal the signs of aging.
What are the Benefits ofPRP?
With PRP injections, you can win the fight against the aging process with cosmetic rejuvenation. Thanks to the healing properties of PRP, this treatment approach has the power to:
- Reverse the signs of aging
- Reduce the appearance of fine lines, facial creases, and wrinkles, such as marionette lines, nasolabial folds, crow’s feet, frown lines, laugh lines, etc.
- Restore lost facial volume
- Minimize the appearance of dark circles under the eyes
- Treat textural irregularities, making your skin appear smooth and supple
- Improve acne marks and scars
Understanding PRP, Platelet-Rich Plasma
What to expect during PRP Treatments
The entire PRP treatment should conclude within 60 minutes, including the preparation and the injections. The cosmetic doctor will first harvest a small amount of blood from your body via a syringe. The blood will then be processed to isolate the PRPs, which will then be injected into the strategically-targeted treatment sites.
After the PRP treatment, you may experience some redness, bruising, and swelling, but they’ll dissipate within a week. You can resume most of your daily activities immediately, but you’ll have to moisturize your skin and wear sunscreen often, especially when you go out.
PRP treatment doesn’t lead to immediate results because it doesn’t inject a foreign substance to “fill” your wrinkles and creases. Instead, it depends on your body’s internal healing response and collagen production. As such, the results will appear gradually over three months, and they’ll last for up to two years.
What To Expect After PRP Injections
You can expect some redness, swelling and bruising at the injection sites after your PRP appointment. These effects are usually mild and should dissipate within one week. To support your skin in the meantime, we recommend moisturizing and applying sunscreen often. You will be free to return to work and resume your normal daily routine as soon as you’re comfortable being seen in public.
