CoolSculpting is a groundbreaking advancement in nonsurgical body contouring that eliminates unflattering and bulky fat without surgery. It’s approved by the FDA and was developed by scientists at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
In addition to no incisions, downtime or associated risks, CoolSculpting is different than other methods like laser and radiofrequency in that it destroys the fat cells permanently.
Below you’ll find information about CoolSculpting, including how it’s done, the results you can expect and what you need to do to get started with one of our San Diego CoolSculpting experts.
How CoolSculpting Works
A little known fact is that fat cells will freeze at higher temperatures than other surrounding tissues. We take advantage of that by pin-point targeting of fat cells and cooling them to temperatures that will initiate their natural death.
There’s no damage to your skin, nerves or any surrounding tissue because the fat cells actually crystallize at a faster rate than other cells. Once the fat cells that have been targeted die, they’ll be metabolized naturally by your body.
What You Can Expect During Your CoolSculpting Experience
During your initial visit at Sadrian Plastic Surgery Laser & Skin Care Institute, you’ll meet one-on-one with a CoolSculpting clinician. Together, an effective treatment plan will be put in place for reshaping your body. Because everyone’s body is different, we’ll work with you in developing the best treatment plan tailored for your needs.
The process itself typically takes about an hour per area, and multiple areas can sometimes be treated simultaneously.
Once the treatment begins, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the targeted area. You may experience some tugging or pulling as the applicator draws the fatty tissue closer in so that it can be isolated.
As the CoolSculpting name suggests, you may feel an intense cool sensation for about 5-10 minutes but the feeling will subside after the targeted area is numbed.
As you sit back and relax – and even take a nap or read – the applicator will supply the cooling temperature to the targeted fat cells.
Because CoolSculpting is nonsurgical, you should be able to return to your normal activities immediately.
Expected Results of CoolSculpting
Many CoolSculpting patients will see tangible results as quickly as 3 weeks after their treatment, but the most dramatic results are typically seen about 2 months after the procedure.
The dead fat cells will continue to be absorbed by your body for up to 4-6 months after the procedure.
Who’s a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?
Because CoolSculpting should not be looked at as a weight-loss solution, ideal candidates for CoolSculpting have noticeable bulges in certain areas that they would like to eliminate.
