Tummy Tuck in San Diego
Tummy Tuck in San Diego
By removing excess protruding skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal muscles, the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is one of the most effective ways to a midsection that’s flatter, more toned and produces a significantly narrower waistline.
Because no two people are alike, San Diego and La Jolla tummy tuck specialist Dr. Sadrian will tailor your procedure to suit your own unique wants and needs.
Reasons for Tummy Tuck
While many of us want to have a well-toned abdomen, often times exercise and weight control are not enough to help achieve our goals, regardless of how healthy our diets are or how hard we exercise. Abdomens that protrude can be caused by a host of factors, including:
- Pregnancy –see Mommy Makeover for when you want more than just the tummy tucked!
- Significant weight fluctuations or weight loss surgery
What a Tummy Tuck Won’t Do
A tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure or a substitute for exercise. If you are looking to have fat removed but do not have excess skin, liposuction is probably a better procedure for you.
Even though tummy tucks are meant to be permanent, you may want to postpone it if you are planning a future pregnancy or substantial weight loss.
While stretch marks cannot be corrected by a tummy tuck, they can be removed or even touched up if they are in the area where excess skin will be removed. For stretch marks not corrected with a tummy tuck, the Micropen™ is an alternative non-surgical treatment.
Candidates for Tummy Tuck
Rather than a form of weight-loss surgery – which they are definitely not – a tummy tuck should be thought of as a boost toward a long-term fitness goal.
Ideal candidates for tummy tucks include people with:
- Excess skin and stretch marks on the abdomen
- Stubborn fat deposits around the abdomen
- Weak abdominal muscles
The Tummy Tuck Experience
On average, tummy tucks take 3-4 hours to complete. An incision in the lower abdomen is made along the pubic hairline so that any noticeable scarring can be easily hidden underneath clothing.
After the fat and skin are separated from the abdominal muscles, those same muscles will be tightened. Any excess skin and fat will be removed and the incision will be closed with stitches.
After the procedure, you’ll be brought to the recovery room so that you can rest as the anesthesia subsides. Once you’re feeling better, a friend or family member can take you home. You will have regular post op appointments so that we can care for your healing process and guide you on your journey.
Tummy Tuck Risks
While it’s true that all surgical procedures involve risk, complications from tummy tucks are rare. Associated risks with tummy tucks include bleeding, a change in abdominal sensation, and blood clots.
